Queensland Schools Project

Mirage Doors has been successful in securing subcontracts from Watpac for four new schools under the Qld Schools Project rollout. The schools at Pallara, Griffin, Ripley and Caboolture West represent 140 steel and aluminium roller shutters which will be manufactured in Mirage’s upgraded manufacturing facilities at Carole Park. Site work will be commencing in August 2015 and progressively continuing through until June 2016. These four schools are part of an overall project of ten new “greenfield” schools being built by Watpac in emerging new suburbs in and around outer Brisbane.

The work with Watpac follows on successful completions last month for them at the Gold Coast Private Hospital and Mater Private Hospital Springfield projects.

Sunshine Coast University Hospital

Mirage Doors has just completed Stage 1 of the Sunshine Coast University Hospital (S.C.U.H.) at Birtinya. This hospital is the first brand new hospital on the Sunshine Coast in over 30 years. Mirage’s relationship with Lend Lease has been successful and prominent for many years, and the successful installation of approx. 220 roller shutters on the Gold Coast University Hospital project in 2013 / 2014 was a strong precursor in securing this latest contract.

Mirage is currently in negotiations with Lend Lease on Stage 2 of the S.C.U.H. project, and are hopeful of a successful outcome by the end of July.

QUT Creative Industries Precinct Kelvin Grove

Mirage Doors has been successful in securing a subcontract from John Holland for three roller shutters and twelve counterweight doors on the QUT Creative Industries Redevelopment at Kelvin Grove on Brisbane’s inner northside. QUT is a major university in Brisbane, and this latest work involves refurbishment of a heritage building as well as a new 5 storey performing arts building. The glazed counterweight doors will be installed in the heritage building, and the metal clad counterweight doors will be part of the new construction.

Many of the John Holland site personnel were known to Mirage from our work in 2011 – 2014 at Enoggera Army Barracks, where over 300 roller shutters were installed in this period. Mirage Qld has strong positive working relationships with the vast majority of the Tier 1 builders in Qld and is well regarded for offering professional advice and project management on a vast array of building situations.

Mirage Doors attends 19th National ASOFIA Conference

Mirage Doors has just completed a very successful participation at the 19th ASOFIA national conference (held on May 1 – 4 in Hobart). ASOFIA (Australian Shop & Office Fitters Industry Association) conducts a national conference every 18 months. The Hobart conference attracted 150 leading shop & office fitters and suppliers from all states. Shop & office fit out work is a key commercial market for Mirage, and the Mirage brand is iconic in this sector. Mirage Doors received a citation recognising their 30+ years of ASOFIA membership and active industry participation.

For the 6th time, but for the 1st time since 2011, Mirage was a conference sponsor. In return, ASOFIA afforded Mirage Doors a very high exposure to the delegates. The conference was attended by Nev Griffiths (Qld), Peter Way (NSW), Tony Vivarelli (Vic) and Paul Zelasko (AM Group). Apart from the many networking opportunities available, Nev gave a sponsors presentation; informing delegates that the recent acquisition by the AM Group has significantly strengthened Mirage’s manufacturing capabilities and site project management resources. This, combined with our traditional specification, contracts administration and estimating strengths, means we can now provide higher performance capabilities on their projects. The feedback was very positive, with requests from several shopfitters to ensure we make follow up contact this week. Nev also informed ASOFIA that we are committed to their organisation, and we will also resume a high profile in their respective state – based organisations. This news was very well received by all in attendance.

Mirage Doors is an industry stalwart, having commenced operations in 1966. The Mirage brand is well established and highly regarded by all stakeholders. It has suffered in recent times from low cost competitors, many of whom are no longer trading. To capitalise on the company strengths and market opportunity, the AM Group is determined to ensure Mirage is appropriate resourced at all stages of a project and to again be the dominant participant in this sector. This in turn will give the AM Group a prominence in the Australian commercial doors market to complement its traditional strengths in the industrial doors market.
